They still make a newer version and I see the old ones all over in the mountain towns of Japan. Daihatsu and Isuzu have that market. It’s pretty much what all the older people have for winter, so other AWD kei cars too. But there are a lot of Hilux Surfs and Land Cruisers out there too.

A “Tin Top” Samurai is on my bucket list.
That’s a lie.
Any Samurai is on my bucket list. There’s one for sale in my area that I’ve tried to buy twice. It was unmolested and not running the first time and the second time. I don’t think I want it now.

Still is! http://www.suzuki.com.au/vehicles/suv/j…
Just not in the US. Well, sorta still is. It got a bit curvier in 1998. RIP external door hinge plates :(.
Funnily enough, they just ESC last year, which would’ve helped with that rollover problem they were famous for in the US.

I love the fact that the Samurai/Jimny/Sierra/Sierra Jimny/Jimny Sierra (in forty years, all Suzuki changed was the name...around) exists.
Nearly pulled the trigger on a used one this year, back when I had steady employment. 2013 model, manual, only 32,000KM on the clock. Silver, too, which is one of the three colours it comes in now.
I’d love to go four-wheel-driving more often. But, as such, I cannot justify having a massive Defender or 70-Series. The ‘Zook is basically a tiny, practical hatchback (turning circle is ridiculously small, fuel economy’s hot-hatch-esque) with better visibility, until you turn off the tarmac.
Also, they have like half the moving parts of a modern vehicle. Less shit to go wrong.

Yeah, we used to the Daihatsu Feroza (Rocky) here, until Daihatsu pulled out of Australia.
We get the Hiluxes and Cruisers, but.
Pocket 4WDs are awesome, but I can see what’s gonna kill ‘em. Reviewers are slowly starting to merge them into the bland, faecal mass of “SUVs” - you know, soccer-mom vehicles - instead of reviewing them as actual 4WDs.
Yeah, yeah: if you’re looking for a freakin’ cloud-soft ride, leather upholstery, SatNav pre-programmed with all the nearest gluten-free-organic ballet schools and daycare, and a drop-down LCD in the back so little Tamayliah and Braiidyn can watch Tangled while you text one-handed to the yoga instructor you’re banging while your husband works overtime at his middle-management job...yeah, no, the Jimny’s not for you. But it never tried to be.
Few things piss me off more than reviewers who cannot understand a designer’s intentions.

There are markets like rural Japan that use them, they even have little snow plows for them near where my wife is from. I’m sure there are odd markets around the world like that. Australia etc. will keep getting the tough Cruisers because nothing else will survive there.

Oh, fear not: we still get Jimnies! In fact, they gave it ESC for us last year.

Oh man, that second one - with the nineties-as-fuck squiggle decal.
There was one of those for sale here a few months back. It was jacked, had a Vitara motor in it (1.6L versus the 1.3), huge fat tyres, in mint nick, with that squiggle on the side...
...and it was in that 90s-as-hell Metallic Jade Turqoise colour.
